Thyroid Health Support in Townsville
Feeling tired, struggling with weight changes, noticing changes in your hair, mood or energy but being told your thyroid results are “normal”?
It can be frustrating when you know you don't feel right but you're not really sure where to look next.
Thyroid symptoms can overlap with many other health issues, which is why understanding what's going on isn't always as simple as looking at one number on a blood test.
At Hello Health, we take the time to look at the bigger picture, Your symptoms, health history, nutrition, lifestyle, medications, supplements and existing pathology results. Where appropriate, we can also discuss whether further testing may be worth investigating with your healthcare team.
Is a normal TSH the whole story?
TSH is an important and useful first-line thyroid test. In many cases, a TSH within the reference range is reassuring.
But if you're still experiencing symptoms, the next question isn't necessarily “How do we fix the thyroid?” It's “What else could be contributing to how you feel?”
Depending on your symptoms, history and existing results, additional thyroid markers such as free T4, and in some circumstances free T3 or thyroid antibodies, may provide useful additional information.
Just as importantly, symptoms commonly associated with thyroid problems can also overlap with things like iron or B12 status, sleep, stress, nutrition, medications, hormonal changes including perimenopause, and metabolic health.
That's why we prefer to look at the person rather than chase one isolated number.
Already taking thyroid medication but still don't feel right?
We also see people who have already been diagnosed with a thyroid condition and are taking thyroid medication, but still don't feel like themselves.
Rather than assuming the answer is simply more thyroid support, we can look at your symptoms, existing pathology, diet, lifestyle, medications and supplements alongside the medical care you're already receiving.
Sometimes there are other pieces of the puzzle worth considering.
